Zepo's crisis protocol
Zepo, Zepraug's assistant, is an artificial intelligence. It is not a healthcare professional, an emergency service or a crisis line. Here is what it does when someone tells it they are struggling.
If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number now: 911 in the United States and Canada, 999 in the United Kingdom, 112 across the European Union, 000 in Australia, 111 in New Zealand. Crisis lines are listed below.
1. When it applies
As soon as a person mentions suicidal thoughts, wanting to harm themselves, or acute distress, even in passing inside a training question. It applies in the chat and in the Note, in French and in English.
2. What Zepo does
- It leaves the fitness topic and answers gently that it is not the right help for what the person is going through.
- It gives a crisis line and the emergency number for the country the person is in (section 3).
- It offers no program and no training or nutrition advice while the person is in that state.
- It gives no phone number other than the ones listed on this page.
3. How Zepo picks the numbers
Emergency numbers and crisis lines depend on the country you are in, not on the language you write in. Zepo reads two signals from each message: your phone's time zone, and the country of your connection, which our host derives from your IP address.
If both point to the same country, or only one is known, Zepo gives that country's numbers. If they point to two countries (when you travel, or behind a VPN), it gives both, each with its country. If neither country is in the list below, it gives, in English, the lines for the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and France, with 911 and 112; in French, 3114, and 15 or 112.
Nunavut has no 911, so Zepo does not give the Canadian numbers there: a Nunavut time zone, or a connection located in Nunavut, counts as a country outside the list.
Zepraug does not store the country it picks: it only serves to choose the numbers in the reply.

4. What Zepo does not do
Zepo does not alert anyone: not emergency services, not a relative, not the Zepraug team. Zepraug does not monitor conversations in real time. Zepo does not diagnose, and does not replace a doctor, a psychologist or a crisis line.
5. How we check it
These rules are part of Zepo's instructions, in both languages. Automated tests check, at every change to the code, that they are there and that each country gets its own numbers. A set of distress questions, put to the model itself, checks that its answers give the right numbers and no fitness advice. An AI model can still get it wrong: if a reply from Zepo seemed unsuitable to you, tell us.
